Batticaloa to Ampara – Lessons Along the Road
Today was our first real riding day in Sri Lanka, and I learned a few things during the ride. Some of these are things I already pretty much knew, but here is additional evidence.
2. Sri Lankan guys are very aggressive “hello” callers, but a large group of Sri Lankan Girls are the most aggressive (and adorable) of all.
People are often pretty excited to see us, and we heard many “Hellos”; “Where-are-you-froms”; and “Where-you-gos” during our ride. This usually comes from men, while the women just greet us with beautiful smiles.
3. We are traveling pretty light, compared to some of our fellow cyclists.
4. Riding more than 40 miles (68 kms) in the beating sun is much harder after being basically sendentary for a month.
Our clothes, drying out after a good rinse post ride.
Special shout out to Redbeard bikes, who sent me an amazing base layer to help keep cool on long hot days. I didn’t even know that such a thing existed! We were both hot (and a little miserable) by the end of the ride, but I was way less sweaty!
